Back in high school I would make up elaborate secret handshakes with my theatre friends. I envisioned running into them years later on the other side of the world and doing the handshake like no time had passed. Literally. I’m not making this up. The beginning of the handshake involved us backing up and bumping into each other and shouting nicknames in delighted surprise. Now, 18 years later, on the other side of the world, I got a notification on Facebook that one of those friends of the secret handshakes is also in Paris. I’m going to run into one of my dear friends (you know, the kind where you got your own phone line so you could spend the hours you weren’t together in rehearsals talking on the phone without being so irritating to your parents) in Paris, on the other side of the world. I’m so excited.
