Being a part of the Detourist was a big part of this contract. It’s a pilot program designed to help passengers get more out of their time on the ship and more out of the ports they visit. It’s made up of two words– detour and tourist. Many people know what they like and they can find themselves doing the same things over and over. Many passengers return to Princess and come to the Caribbean so often that they don’t even get off the ship. Jase and I led a series of workshops that inspired curiosity, deeper conversations and a sense of fun and adventure. I thought I was a curious adventurous person until I began to notice how many choices I had each day between doing something the say I had always done it or doing it a new way– going somewhere I’d been before vs. trying something new. So don’t just be a tourist, take some detours and be a Detourist.
This family came to one of our workshops on the first day of the cruise, and then made us feel like celebrities the rest of the week. By the last day, their stories brought me to tears.
It was very moving, week after week, to hear the stories of people who mustered up the courage to do things a little beyond their comfort zone. Things didn’t always work out magically, but seeing the pride and appreciation on their faces made me feel like I was part of something special.
Courtney was the first Detourist to complete all of the Dare to Dare challenges!
