After visiting Riverside, Annie guided us along the scenic route to see more family relics. We drove under a covered bridge (a bucket list item for visiting Vermont), over hills and through fall colors, passing mansions and beautiful views.
We pulled over next to the Shores Memorial Museum
Annie went to check and see if it was open. No one was there, but it was unlocked so we went inside.
The alarm chirped and the phone rang as we picked through all of the old stuff in the old house.
I was having such a great time. I love old stuff, and seeing how houses are laid out. It was even better that some of the stuff was used by people I was related to. I especially enjoyed feeling that we were trespassing despite Annie’s reassurances that it was okay.
On the third floor, Wendy found a side saddle!
It says, “Side Saddle — On which Abigail Porter rode from Connecticut to become the bride of Augustus Walter at Hilltop Farm, about 1795. My grandmother’s maiden name was Walter.
This is why I wanted to go to Riverside this year with my sisters.
