Is today, May 25th. It’s a Catholic holiday celebrated in both France and the Netherlands, and probably a lot of other Catholic countries.
Well, I can’t yet say as much for Paris, yet, but I think I love this hostel. I arrived shortly before 5pm and was quickly moved through reception so I would have time to get a free drink- complimentary to guests. I got my key, slipped my stuff into the locker under the bunk bed, and slipped back downstairs. On my way, I met Noel, an Aussie who commented on my sunburn. She gave me a home remedy for sunburns involving tea which I politely acknowledged. At the bar, she joined me at my table, told me about her travels and showed me where she was featured on google maps outside the Moulin Rouge. She invited me to join her outside where the music wasn’t so loud. I picked up some discounted grapefruit flavored beer from Scotland and joined her on the deck overlooking the canal. It was there that I met two girls who shared our table. One was originally from Poland, the other from New Zealand and both of them now lived in Amsterdam. Noel excused herself, but I had a great time with the other girls, though we didn’t get around to exchanging names. The bridge went up and down and the rented boats went back and forth.
We talked about living in different countries and being tourists and locals. And how crazy it was in Amsterdam last night! Apparently the Amsterdam team lost, so it was very quiet today.
Plus these bunk beds have curtains and power points in each bunk. I like it a lot.
Oh, and I was in bunk K for Kelly. I took a picture of the K on the wall, but can’t upload it.
