Adelaide was one of our more regular stops while I was on the Golden Princess. On one of our first full cruises in Australia I asked one of the guests where he was from during karaoke and he sang, ‘Adelaaaaaaaaaaaide!’ Lauren and Randi picked it up and forever more we can only say it like that. On the Golden I didn’t get to see enough of Adelaide and now we only had one day.  By now we’d seen the koalas and kangaroos (which was something to do in Adelaide).  When we didn’t have a plan, we tended to end up going into town and spending the day going into shops, having lunch and sipping cocktails until it was time to go back.  This time we wanted to do something different.  Joseph and Bri and I did some research and set out to go wine tasting at Joseph’s favorite winery.  I know, not much different from cocktails.  But this day rocked my world.  We took the 45 minute train into the city, and then took an uber another 40 minutes to the winery.  The winery lived in a Dali Museum, which brought back memories of the Dali museum I visited in Spain.

This place was bonkers, in such a good way. We could have wandered through the museum first, but we had limited time so we went straight up to the fourth floor to start with our tasting.

We exited the elevator to find ourselves kind of behind the bar, which I thought was an interesting set up. We took in our surroundings. There was a spinny thing if you needed help choosing the next variety:

There was a list above it that connected the numbers with different varieties.

We made our way to the counter.

I was besotted by the names of the wine:

I think we all chose the Varietal Adventure.

The vineyards reminded me of California wine country. I messaged my family back home to let them know I was thinking of them.

Behind the bar there was a vintage nutcracker collection, and my aunt Wendy has a nutcracker collection.

Not only did the wine have great names, it was also delicious.

I had to look these up

Yes – both of these phobias now live in my collection of general knowledge trivia questions.

I was blissing out in my happy place- delighting in the company of my friends, drinking good wine, surrounded by random stuff and words brought together in interesting ways. But then it got better. I had to go to the bathroom. It was all the way down on the first floor. I took the stairs and the walls were covered with fantastic art like this:

I thought the bathrooms on the ship were hard to find, but these were intentionally hidden:

I managed to find my way inside

The stalls were obviously decorated.

I asked Joseph to get pictures of the men’s toilets.

I made a video that is too long to send by message, but I’ll try to put it on facebook with this post.

We decided to stay for lunch.

The corner window by our table.

The food was so good. It was one of the more expensive meals that we enjoyed but it was worth every penny. We each got a bottle of our favorite wine to take back to the ship.

This is the book the bill came in.

We left with just enough time to get an uber back to the ship, but this is a place I HIGHLY recommend even if it is a little further away. If you’re ever in Adelaide, I’d put this on the top of your list of things to do. You know, if you like wine and weird stuff.

All the Way Around: Adelaaaaaaide!
