Eden and New Castle are two small towns very close to Sydney. When the itinerary came out we anticipated that more guests would stay onboard because these were places you could drive to from Sydney. Luckily I was still able to get off the ship.
Eden is a smaller town. We docked at the pier (obviously) and then climbed up the hill to the town (which as far as we could tell was one long street). There was a way that went straight up and one that zig zagged for a more level incline. We obviously dubbed them the nicknames the gay way and the straight way. There was a beach nearby that I never managed to find, but the views of the cliffs looking out at the water were gorgeous. We found cute quirky shops, really good food and a grocery store. My favorite place to eat was called Fig. One time Bri and I went whale watching where we saw whales jumping out of the water at a distance and lots of dolphins up close. The pictures could in now way capture the experience so we just enjoyed it. Later on the 28 day cruise all the way around Australia, I missed Eden. I was looking for prizes for the prize table – cheap trinkets that adults might want, and I was sure I would have had better luck if I’d been able to shop for them in Eden.
New Castle is another charming place. The city is a little bigger than Eden and there is a nice walk along the water. Again we spent our time finding great food and then wandering into shops. There was a 20 minute shuttle that took us from the pier into the city, and it was usually a shorter day, so that was really all we had time to do. Both Eden and New Castle had us sighing that we would miss going to these towns when we got to our last ones.
Joseph is from Newcastle in England so I liked to point out the connection there. I also purposefully separate New and Castle (both are Newcastle) just to push his buttons. He knows it. If he could edit this he would change it to something even more annoying to me.
