Busselton was a water shuttle port, and we were only using the ship’s water shuttles that day (which are smaller than the port’s shuttles which are sometimes available, depending on the port), which meant that we could wake up super early and beat the rush, or wait until the majority of guests had gone ashore first. I needed a day to sleep in, so we went for the second option. Busselton is known for its super long jetty (or pier) that has an aquarium at the end. We didn’t have much time so I was thinking we’d walk the jetty and then go into town if we had time. When we arrived it was raining and Bri, Georgie and I were hungry. The closest thing to the pier was a brewery. I joked that we might have taken the water shuttle all the way over only to go to the closest place on the pier and then go back. The beer was delicious the food was good, and after a couple of rounds, the sun came out. We quickly ran into some shops where I found more souvenirs than I was looking for, and we power walked against the wind down to the end of the Jetty.

There’s a train that goes all the way to the end, but we wanted to walk
The ship is just over my shoulder. It looks very small, but it felt like the jetty took us half way back to the ship!

We didn’t have time for the Aquarium, and we made it back just in time to catch the water shuttle that allowed Georgie to get to rehearsal on time.

My friend Clara in Sydney had recommended getting off in this port so I could walk on the really long jetty. She said you walk so far out and then it’s like you’re in the middle of the ocean. Then we laughed as she realized that I spend most of my time on a ship in where you look out at the middle of the ocean. It was still fun and I’m glad I did it.

So that’s my story. When I got back, Kelvin, the Entertainment Director asked if Busselton was nice, and I said, well, we took a water shuttle there, went to the closest place for lunch, walked the jetty and came back. I felt like that answered the question – or at least explained why I had gone ashore and still had very limited information about Busselton. He didn’t agree. So I can’t tell you how the town is, but I enjoyed the brewery and the jetty walk!
