My views do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.
I’d been expecting rain for the rest of my stay, so I was surprised and delighted to wake up to sunshine!
I set out to seize the day!
Antoinette’s friend Bastiaan had sent me a google map of his favorite places in Prague after living here for 10 years. One of the spots was ‘the best panoramic view of Prague’ next to a beer garden. That seemed like a good thing to do on a beautiful day. I walked there, climbed the hill and took in the view.
Ok. Now what do I want to do? I could read my book or keep going. I decided to check out the beer garden.
I think this is the place he meant, which would have been awesome to sit there on the roof, but it was surrounded by construction and loud banging.
I wandered around the park for a bit, and decided to take myself to lunch at the fancy restaurant on a boat that Erich recommended. I asked google maps to guide me there, but then turned down a different street whenever I wanted to.
I just love this city.
There was the museum I went to!
Today was a much nicer day. Weather-wise.
This little square looked like a fairy tale to me
I found the barge.
I went in to ask for a table, but I found a sign that said ‘cash only.’ I was really enjoying going this whole trip just using my credit card. I was really looking forward to leaving without the spare coins and bills to keep track of until next time (I hadn’t even been able to find my British currency at home, so I must have given it away). Plus I wanted to go in an order whatever I wanted without trying to guess how close the total was to how much cash I had on hand. New plan! I would cross the river and find a nice cafe right on the river. Hopefully I’d find a place with good food and ambiance.
I found this cafe with a passageway so narrow it had a streetlight.
After spending way too much time studying the menu I went to ask for a table only to find another ‘cash only’ sign. Seriously? This was the first day I had encountered this problem. I set off to find another place that took cards. I walked past a used bookshop with a couple of guys loitering outside drinking beer. I love how prevalent beer is in this city. It seems like everyone is drinking alcohol at all times. Earlier in the park a lady had been sitting on a bench sipping a beer with her partner.
Finally I found another restaurant on the river. Did they take card? Yes! Can I sit in the garden? Yes!
I selected my table entirely pleased with my destination. I could even see Erich’s restaurant boat across the river!
I ordered toast with cheese and beets to start
And lots of vegetables for my main:
I had to finish it off with apple strudel and vanilla ice cream.
I wandered back through the touristy streets back to my apartment, trying to figure out if any of the souvenirs could capture the essence of this magical city.
