My views do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.

Sunday it was raining. I had arranged to meet up with my mom’s friend Antoinette’s friend Denisa. I love these kinds of introductions. Denisa and Antoinette had met on a train many years ago and Antoinette has great taste in people. It was pouring rain outside so Denisa suggested we go to a museum. There was a special exhibition of the 20th Century. We were joined by Denisa’s son Daniel, who was a little nervous about speaking English, but I thought he was able to keep up with the conversation as good as anyone!

It was fascinating to see up close how much this area has changed in the last 100 years or so. In my part of the world, relatively, things stayed pretty much the same. People left to go to war, but we were comparatively left alone. There was a map that went through the years showing how the territories changed. There was a video that was mostly in Czech, but I got the gist of it about everything that had happened. Here I was surrounded by very old buildings in such a new country. There was an exhibit of different rooms from different time periods. One was a living room from the 1980’s with CD’s and VHS tapes. It was definitely weird to see a period that I’d lived featured in a museum.

There was also a cool walkway that led underground from the newer museum to the older museum that showed how the big street we faced changed over time.

Here I am in front of a replica of the museum

The inside of the museum was a work of art in itself!

When we left the museum, it had stopped raining so we wandered through the streets toward the river. Denisa showed me a garden that was hidden among the buildings. I loved all the secret passages, the shopping areas that popped you out on a different street. It was like the city was a maze full of hidden treasures.

We reached the river and Denisa pointed out some places I might want to try (which I did the next morning) along the way. At that point it was time for them to go and we had reached their tram stop.

I realized that I was pretty close to Burrito Loco, which Erich had raved about:

I picked up dinner and wove my way back home.

The next morning I continued my sampling of cafes around Prague. I love cafes and good coffee and breakfast. So far I had visited a different one every day. Today’s was a little further from my apartment, but a must-see. The cafe Louvre was famous for being frequented by famous thinkers many years ago. Their cappuccino was beautiful.

Instead of my usual pastry, I opted for the homemade pancakes with sour cream and raspberry sauce.

The day was grey and threatening rain, so I allowed myself to stay in and rest from my 10 mile daily hikes. I binge watched Netflix and picked up some pizza from around the corner.
