Though we did the New Zealand run over and over again, it took me four months to get to Dunedin. I was only able to get off at that port every other run. The first time I did the hike in Port Chalmers, another time it was cancelled and we went to a different port instead, and one time there was a drill in the morning which didn’t leave enough time to take the shuttle into Dunedin in time to get back. Finally on Superbowl Sunday (which was Monday in New Zealand), I made it! I looked up the best place to eat that was open within walking distance on Trip Advisor, which was a little cafe across from the train station called Ironic Cafe. I liked the name.

I felt like a tourist again, taking a picture of the train station.

I went to the counter to order and I was so hungry (we’d had a drill that morning too) that I impulse bought this veggie scone:

It was incredible. Then my meal came which was also amazing.

Once again, I found myself in a new cool place, not really sure what to do. I’d sort of looked things up. Supposedly the most horizontal street in New Zealand (the Lombard Street of the Southern Hemisphere) was in this City, but it was too far away for me to get there. There was also a university somewhere. So I decided to walk around.

I found the town center, which was setting up for some form of festival. There were a couple of places advertising that you could see the Superbowl there. The 49ers were playing. I was picturing my family having a big party at home– they are 49er fans. Then I saw a bar with my uncle’s name:

It started to rain, so I headed back to the shuttle pickup spot to learn that I’d just missed it. The new Cruise Director was also there. He asked if I would like to join him at a cafe while we waited the hour for the next shuttle. It was a cute town. I would like to go back and explore it some more, so I could actually do the fun things there.
