In the summer of 2001 my mom took my sister and I on a 64 day road trip across the country. We wove our way around hitting the places we wanted to see and by the time we got home, my mom had been to every state in the continental US. For the last few years, I’ve had 4 states I haven’t seen straggling on my list– New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa and North Carolina. Since Wendy hadn’t been to the Atlantic Ocean, we decided to “feed two birds with one scone” as my mom says, by making our way to Vermont by way of New Hampshire.
Hampton Beach looked like a good place to stop
We took off our shoes to walk through the sand.
It was a gorgeous day
And the horses we arranged for Wendy showed up (that was a joke- the horses were a serendipitous coincidence. We did stop them so Wendy could talk to them)!
My mom and her sisters grew up in Highland Indiana
We had a picnic on the beach. Wendy appreciated how my mom classily finished off the dessert wine we had opened the night before.
The fall colors were spectacular. Unfortunately, when I tried to take pictures of them, they wouldn’t show up on camera.
Still, it was an impressive drive. Wendy didn’t think Vermont could be more beautiful than New Hampshire, but it held it’s own.
I loved this sign– It didn’t tell us how many miles to a city in Canada, or even how far it was to the Canadian border. Just Canada.
