On Friday night we were supposed to go to Long Island with Amanda’s friend Micah, but then I won the lottery for tickets to Measure for Measure at the Public, and Micah insisted that we take them.  We met him for drinks before the show at the Library– the bar at the Public.  They had delightful cocktails.  Then at 7 we settled into our seats to see our 3rd show at the Public — Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure.

The show was set in the 30’s.  It seemed like they made the choice to say the lines as fast as they could.  Sometimes the script was on the walls, so I could catch what they were saying.  I’d done a monologue from this show, so I’d read it.  But they were speaking so fast that I wasn’t getting most of what they were saying.  I didn’t understand a lot of the costume choices either.  The lighting was bright, and there was one scene where the characters spoke slowly enough that there were actual moments on stage.  But I’d grade it with a D.

The evening was redeemed when we stopped for dinner at EATaly on 23rd and 5th Ave.  I always want to eat Italian food.  Sometimes I don’t just because I should eat other things.  This place had an Italian market surrounding the restaurant.

Cheese!

They had red fizzy wine.  They had buffalo mozzarella.

And they had fresh pasta.  I was once again in heaven.  It wasn’t as fancy as Il Buco, but it was the best step below super fancy.  This place was worth an A+ from me!
