Do you remember my artist friend, Ryan Frank, who I met up with in Paris?  He’s back in NYC where he normally lives and invited me to a show of his… on a boat!

Amanda met me after work.  We caught a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty before we boarded Ryan’s floating art show.

There’s the front of the Lilac.

This party was so nautically themed– there were goldfish snacks, there was a movie of ocean life playing downstairs, and the beer choices had nautical names.

Ryan took these pictures, and placed them in the glass so that the light streamed through them (that’s not the actual view through the window).  It’s such a cool piece.

Here we are on the boat!

There were dancers that dance for science.

I think they were being seahorses.

After the show we stopped for dinner at Westville where we each ordered a pile of vegetables.

Beets, plantains, zucchini with tomatoes and mozzarella and artichokes.

Quinoa salad, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts and mushrooms.

When we sat down, the hostess asked if we knew about the water situation.  We didn’t.  They currently did not have running water, so if we needed to use the bathroom, Pret A Manger across the street would let us use theirs.  We asked where the water in our glasses came from and how they were washing dishes!  She said they had bottled water, and they were pretty stressed about the dishes situation– they could shut down any minute!  It was fun to get the behind the scenes drama.  And the food was great!

In Denver, I wasn’t about late nights.  If someone was in a show at 10:30, I would not be there.  But now I was in the city that never sleeps (and I’m not working)! So we had an art show at 6, dinner at 8, and then we went to see a play put on by the Masters students at Amanda’s school at 9:30.

The play was called Blood Wedding.  I wasn’t a fan.  I was relieved to learn that Amanda wasn’t either.  We always like to pick apart the shows we’ve seen and asses what we would have done differently.  In this case, we would have picked a different play.  One of the guys in it was attractive.  That’s the only compliment I could come up with.  The rest was just weird.
