Before I left I was curious to see how it would be traveling alone.  I really enjoy my own company, but sometimes when I find myself experiencing something spectacular it’s that much more fun to share it.  Being able to tell my story on this blog helped with wanting to share my amazing life, but now I think I’ve figure out how to take it a step further.

I missed my friends the most as I saw groups of people gathered for picnics on the edge of the canal in Paris.

I wanted to sit by a canal drinking wine and eating sandwiches with my friends! Not a book! And they would love it too!

Then I vaguely recalled that in Denver you can have open alcoholic beverages in parks.  I messaged my friend Emily and asked her if we could get a bottle of wine and make some french baguette sandwiches and sit on the edge of the lake in Washington Square Park at sunset and pretend we were in Paris.  She was game.

Then I started to think– How could I re-create the other places I visited?

Amsterdam— go to a sex shop and a dispensary?  Nah.  I didn’t even do that in Amsterdam.  Ride a boat through a canal?  Can’t pull that off.

Eat chunky fries with peanut sauce?  YES.

Ride a bike everywhere.  That I could pull off.

Barcelona– sleep late, have some coffee

and maybe a snack at about 10am.  Have lunch at 2 and then take a nap.

Then around 6pm get together with friends and have snacks and cheap sparkling wine until 2am (preferably on an outdoor patio).

Sleep through the morning and Repeat.

Scotland- drive through the mountains.

See if you can find a single lane road where someone has to pull over when you meet oncoming traffic.  And while you’re there, go for a hike and see if you can find a distillery.

Ireland– start the morning with some whiskey and cream in your coffee (I mean, maybe not every day), visit a body of water during the day

and then end your day at a pub with a pint in hand and live music.

And finally, this goes without saying, savor every moment you spend with your friends.

(Michelle, if I had remembered to take a picture with you it would be on here too!)

Cheers!
