Joanna walked me to the train at 5 minutes to 6 in the morning as the sun was rising.  I took the train to the bus to the airport, hung out in Brussels for a couple of hours and then finally arrived in Edinburgh!  I was so happy to put on my jacket that I’d been carrying around for the last month!

I saw this guy in line at immigration- non EU.  He’s dressed in this Irish outfit, but he’s wearing Colorado socks.

It’s so pretty!

My hostel is right across from the castle.

I arrived at 7pm, charged my phone enough to go from red battery level to green and then went across the street for my first whiskey in Scotland.

I had haggis, tatties and something else they said– turnips and mashed potatoes, and a deep-fried mars bar for dessert.  The wait staff was impressed with my ‘Scottish experience’ choices.  By 9pm I couldn’t stay awake for the live music that was just starting, and went to bed.  I woke up at 6.  I knew that Scotch time was probably earlier than Spanish time, but I wasn’t sure when it started.  I decided to walk around unencumbered by my suitcase before I had to check out at 10.  I climbed these steps to the Royal Mile.

After the hike on Sunday, my hips were sore and these hills were not helping the situation.  I saw them taking down bleachers outside the castle

And finally I found a breakfast place that was open.  I ordered the vegetarian breakfast:

I love these phone booths.  I still have a pencil holder that looks like one.  But they’re not just phone booths anymore!

By 9am Edinburgh was just starting to wake up

Sad fountain

And there’s the happy face on the other side!

Here is the fountain’s story:

If this cocktail bar were open, I would totally go

On the train to Inverness (by way of Perth) I saw this castle in the middle of the water! When we got closer, I saw that it was an oil rig.

Scotland is so beautiful!

Next stop, Ladybank.  I had to see this!

There wasn’t much to it.

And here is a train of flowers!Next stop Inverness!

Edinburgh is Beautiful!
