On Sunday I met up with Michelle, Gabriel and Skyler again and we went to the beach for a walk.  The sand was fine and soft and there were windmills on the horizon (some of the locals think it ruins the view, but I think it’s awesome).  It reminded me of the times in Italy when my host families would take me on an outing to their favorite spots.  After our walk we found a set of three connected lounge chairs and settled in for drinks and snacks.  In the Netherlands, fries are popular but they have them with a variety of sauces.  I passed on the typical ketchup and chose the peanut sauce which was delicious.  Skyler was delighted by my pedicure (I have a flower painted on the big toes) and she laughed and squealed playing with my toes and my ankle bracelet.  Michelle wasn’t familiar with “This little piggy goes to the market” but they have a similar nursery rhyme with fingers, but no tickling.

I love finding places where you go for an afternoon, but it feels so different from where you’ve been that it feels like you’ve been away for the weekend.
